THACO group plans agricultural expansion in Cambodia

Vietnamese conglomerate, the Truong Hai Group Corporation, also known as THACO group, has disclosed intentions to extend its agricultural operations into Cambodia by the year's end. This expansion is set to encompass the establishment of two farms focused on fruit and livestock production, alongside processing facilities, necessitating the recruitment of several thousand local employees. THACO AGRI, the agricultural subsidiary of the group, has detailed plans to invest $228.4 million in 2024 for the development of large-scale organic agricultural production complexes across the region, including locations in the central highlands of Vietnam, two in Cambodia, and one in Laos. The specifics of the Cambodian sites remain undisclosed.

The regional development strategy outlines the dedication of 11,600 hectares to intensive banana production and 7,100 hectares to fruit tree cultivation integrated with cow breeding and other livestock operations. This initiative aims at enhancing the total stocks of cows and pigs to 151,500 and 136,000 respectively, with a goal to achieve an annual animal feed output of 120,000 tons.
