Aubergine-like fruit sells well in the market

Many fruits come to the market in autumn. But this season, besides oranges and kakis, a very special fruit with the shape and colour of an aubergine, will be on sale at around 50 Yuan per kilo.

When ripe, it can be split open to reveal a white fruit pulp and it tastes a bit like bananas, though somewhat stickier.

The fruit is from the three-leaf akebia (which is often used for medical purposes), and normally ripens in August. It can be found in both the southern and northern provinces of China, especially near the Yangtze River region.
