Mexico: Michoacan to export tropical fruits and berries to the Netherlands and Sweden

Companies from Michoacan will export 37.6 tons of food products to the Netherlands and Sweden this year. This exports are possible thanks to the actions that the State Government, headed by Silvano Aureoles Conejo, develops through the Ministry of Economic Development (Sedeco) to increase the existing international trade relations and to open new markets, said the head of that agency, Antonio Soto Sanchez.

"This is the result of our trade mission in the Netherlands last June. We had various business meetings where we presented Michoacan's commercial offer to different business people and authorities. Three of the eight companies that participated in the trade mission will carry out the first exports by shipping avocado, berries, and mango to this destination," the state official said.

He added that the trip was made in coordination with ProMexico, and that they had succeeded in establishing commercial relations with the following European wholesale distribution companies: Levarth, ICA, and Bakker Barendrecht. After this, the producers obtained the Social Responsibility and SIPAS CR Certifications, both of which are necessary to enter those countries.

In that vein, he said that the current state administration was committed to strengthening the positioning strategies that would allow more producers to export and diversify markets. He also invited the state enterprises to have all the necessary regulations to achieve this.

"We are open to supporting them in every way we can regarding their products, from standards and quality studies, to branding and logos, as well as marketing routes at all scales. We need to work hand in hand, the society and the government, so that everyone can know the quality of what we produce in this land," said Soto Sanchez.
