After a period in which mangoes were sold below cost price, the market has now reached a turning point. “It is all looking much more positive,” says Henk van der Meij from Hars & Hagebauer. “Volumes from Peru are decreasing, and Brazil is also sending limited volumes, in part thanks to a strong, local market. This is resulting in sales prices of around 6 euro, and we expect a stable to slightly increasing market for the coming time.”
“We do not expect an abundant supply until June, at least. That is fortunate, because no one benefits from large peaks. Demand is good, and after an unpredictable and difficult period, we are now feeling positive about the spring,” Henk continues. “The mangoes from the northern area of Peru are starting to show some wear and tear now, but we expect to load healthy fruit from the new areas in the coming weeks.”
