China: Hainan wax apple in sharp cut

"Most wax apples on the Chinese market are from Taiwan and Hainan province, a small amount are from Guangdong and Fujian province, and some are from Thailand and Vietnam. Take Hainan province as example, wax apples produce two seasons a year. The cold air at the end of the year before last and typhoon weather resulted in weaker trees, and the flowering time was delayed, the yield reduced about 50%, the price of the field rose by about 30% over the same period last year." Mrs.Feiyan Su said, from Qionghai Yu Jue fruit and vegetable production and marketing farmers cooperatives.

"Our cooperatives is located in Qionghai city of Hainan province, and we have an area of 225 acres of wax apple plantation, our main planting varieties are leaf wax apple and kingbox wax apple. The leaf wax apple can be supplied all year round, under normal circumstances, the listing period of kingbox wax apple starts at the beginning of November each year till the end of next July. Last year, affected by abnormal weather conditions, the listing period was postponed until the end of December, and the trees were very weak, which directly led to a substantial reduction in the amount. So far as now, the weather is normal this year, and if there is no extreme weather, both the output and the market price are expected to be relatively stable."

"In terms of sales, our wax apple is sold through on-line sellers and fruit stories to high-end supermarekts and fruit boutiques of first and second tier cities such as Ole, City 's Supershop, and a small amount sold to the larger wholesale market."
