"The International Berry Seminar in Tangier will empower a growing industry"

According to Blueberries Consulting, despite having a late start and timid entry into exports, Morocco's blueberry industry is quickly growing and being recognized by the world markets. This has been possible thanks to genetic developments and new varieties available, the good use of technology, new management systems without soil, and the prestige achieved by its fruit.

"The area devoted to blueberries in Morocco is permanently growing in different regions. In addition, producers are growing higher-quality varieties. As a result, there's been an increase in the production volume and the quality of the fruit, which is already recognized and preferred by consumers in the markets where it has a presence. It's a profitable activity. The Moroccan product has achieved prices above the international average because it's been well received by consumers."

International Meeting
"Morocco's blueberry industry is growing. There are increases in hectares, production volumes, export volume, and the valuation of its product in the markets."

"The XXXIII International Berry Seminar will be held on September 11 at the Royal Tulip City Center Hotel in Tangier. The event will empower Moroccan producers and entrepreneurs, and is a great opportunity for the international industry to learn about Morocco's significant growth and the great level of management of its industry."

Authorities of Morocco's Berry Association, Agadir Chamber of Commerce, and the director and manager of Blueberries Consulting Projects.

The blueberry industry's goals
"Morocco increased the area it devotes to blueberry production by more than 1,000 hectares in the last season and currently has nearly 5,300 hectares. The industry goal is to reach 6,000 hectares planted with good varieties in the short term."

"The Moroccan industry's goal is to produce and export more than 100,000 tons of blueberries in this decade, demonstrating that it has consolidated and is willing to become a protagonist in the international market."

"Tangier is one of the regions that will boost the country's growth in the coming years. Today, the region contributes almost 10% of the kingdom's GDP, but this figure is expected to increase rapidly thanks to its steady growth rate."

Favorable conditions
"Morocco can produce blueberries 10 months a year. Production in the areas where it is not cold goes from September to April or May. This crop is grown in the flatlands and in areas near the sea, which don't have many cold hours. The Moroccan industry wants to produce from April to August or September, to have production during the 52 weeks of the year."

"In addition, Morocco is a gateway to Europe, Africa, and Asia. The country has many free trade agreements (FTAs) with major markets, such as Europe, the US, Turkey, Arab countries, Mediterranean countries like Egypt and Tunisia, and African countries, facilitating marketing with all neighboring and distant countries. The country is connected to Europe by a long motorway. It has permanent air transport from Casablanca and a powerful maritime and port infrastructure in Tangier."

"Morocco's blueberry sector grows practically all the new varieties in the world using different management systems and technologies. In addition to its privileged geographical location - which allows it to deliver its fruit in 4 days to Europe and 6 to Russia - the sector receives permanent support from the public and state apparatus, which translates into promotion, financial plans, infrastructure, and the opening of markets, among other things. Furthermore, production costs in the country are reasonable, the workforce is young but experienced, and there are good technicians and professionals."
