Coconut price surge in Vietnam due to hot weather

In recent months, coconut prices in Vietnam have seen a significant increase, reaching VND13,000 as demand escalates with the hot weather conditions. Nguyen Dinh Tung, CEO of fruit exporter Vina T&T, highlighted the rapid price fluctuations, sometimes occurring within a single day. To secure a consistent supply, businesses are committing to purchase from farmers even during periods of low prices, alongside offering additional incentives.

Due to the scorching temperatures, which have soared to 40 degrees Celsius in some areas, there's a heightened demand for fresh coconut juice. This surge is particularly notable in Ben Tre Province, a key coconut-producing region in the Mekong Delta, where prices have been increasing almost daily, resulting in a profit margin of VND3,000-5,000 per coconut for farmers. Retailers such as Saigon Co.op have reported a 50% increase in coconut juice demand. Additionally, the prospect of Vietnamese coconuts being exported to China has contributed to the price rise.
